Thanks to an unexpected surplus of state stimulus funds, Route 30 in eastern Lancaster County will undergo a $5.2 million resurfacing project.
Pennsylvania received $1.026 billion for transportation construction projects through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act earlier this year.
But contractors bid lower than expected to complete 241 bridge and road projects, leaving a surplus of money that now will fund 52 more statewide.
Here, Route 30 will be resurfaced from Route 896 to Route 897, passing through Lampeter, Leacock, Paradise and Salisbury townships.
The project will be up for bid by pre-approved contractors in an accelerated process of about two weeks, according to state Department of Transportation spokesman Greg Penny.
Workers for the lowest approved bidder will begin work as soon as they "mobilize," Penny said.
