Bike rider suffers critical injuries

A 12-year-old Leola boy was injured Friday afternoon when the bicycle he was riding swerved into a van.

Sebastian Alvarado was riding his bike on the eastbound shoulder of the first block of West Main Street when, East Lampeter Township police said, he entered the eastbound lane of travel for unknown reasons.

The boy's bicycle collided with a silver 2009 Toyota Sienna driven by Long Ly of Leola. Ly was not injured.

Alvarado was transported to Lancaster General Hospital by ambulance. He was later airlifted to the Penn State Milton Hershey Medical Center, where he is listed in critical condition.

The incident remains under investigation by the Lampeter Crash Team.
