Evan Scudner has had himself a pretty successful summer so far.
The Lancaster resident won the Compound Male Junior Division (ages 16-18) at the FITA Archers of Pennsylvania State Outdoor Tournament in early June in Allentown.
He then won the Pennsylvania State Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) Outdoor Tournament in Sharpesville last Friday.
At the FITA tournament, Scudner, who is a home-schooled student in the Conestoga Valley school district, set a new state record with a score of 1,333 (out of 1,440).
Four other local archers placed at the Pennsylvania Outdoor Tournament in Allentown.
Cassie Cochran (Willow Street) took first in Compound Cadet Female Division (ages 14-16) and broke her own state record with a 1352. Matthew Cummings (Mountville) placed second in the Compound Male Junior Division.
Emily Ney (Conestoga) won the Compound Female Bowman (ages 10-12) Division and Krystopher Romero (Landisville) took first in the Compound Male Bowman class.
Another tournament is on the horizon for local archers this weekend.
The JOAD National Tournament will be held in Downingtown.
Over 250 youth archers from across the United States will compete for the national championship. Members of the USA Junior World Teams and Resident Athletes from the Olympic Training Center will compete accompanied by the U.S. national coaching staff.
Six members of the Lancaster JOAD club will compete in this four-day event involving archers between the ages of 10-18.
