Hello cool Canadian air.
After a week of rain and flooding and then several days with high temperatures and humidity, a reprieve begins overnight tonight.
“It will be a noticeable change,” said Millersville University meteorologist Eric Horst, “a dramatic reduction in haze, lower humidity and dew points. It will feel much more comfortable.”
First, a cold front will bring more showers and thunderstorms today and tonight, he said.
A strong storm Tuesday downed trees and power lines throughout the East Donegal Township area, according to a county dispatcher.
Today’s high will only reach 80 degrees, five degrees below normal.
Overnight, clear skies will usher out the mugginess that seemed to sweat up shirts here the last several days as fast as the deluge of rain water saturated many basement rugs last week.
The low tonight will be 60.
“People will notice it when they wake up tomorrow,” Horst said. “It will begin a nice stretch of weather.”
He predicts no 90-degree days and no significant precipitation the rest of the week.
Thursday will be mostly sunny, breezy and comfortable, with a high near 80. Some may turn off their air-conditioners, as the low will be in the upper 50s.
Friday will also be mostly sunny with a high near 80 and low overnight of around 60 degrees, Horst said.
The humidity will slowly return this weekend, but the dry stretch should continue through Sunday.
Saturday will be mostly sunny with a high of 84.
Sunday will have a mix of clouds and sun, with a high in the mid-80s.
Horst measured 10.21 inches of rain at Millersville June 22-29 and a total of 13.34 inches for the month. That’s 9˝ inches more than the average amount for June.
Some parts of the county reportedly got even more.
The first four days of July had an average high temperature of 88 degrees. The hottest of them, Sunday, hit 92 degrees.
