One cruised while the other battled, both resulting in the same outcome.
A Manheim Township lacrosse win.
Both Manheim Township's girls' and boys' lacrosse teams won their first-round PIAA Tournament games Tuesday.
The girls handled Mount Lebanon, 14-3, while the boys fought off North Allegheny, 9-8, in a doubleheader at Shippensburg University.
The Streaks duo joins the Hempfield girls team as the three L-L League teams still alive in the state tournament, all advancing to Saturday's quarterfinals, at sites and times to be determined.
Township's boys will take on Mount Lebanon, while the girls face Peters Township. Hempfield's girls will meet Strath Haven, which eliminated Penn Manor Tuesday.
The Blue Streak girls (19-4) jumped out on top early with a 3-0 lead and would never look back.
Devon Schneider scored first for MT, while Molly Curcio netted back-to-back shots to give the Streaks an unusual early lead.
"The first three goals of the game were important," MT coach Lisa Lyons said. "It was something that we struggled with during the season, being down early in half of our games. Coming out like that was something the girls needed."
Township finished off the first half with three more goals to take a 7-2 halftime lead. Lauren DeLellis and Rachael Rosenfeld scored in the first half, while Curcio and Schneider added one each for the Streaks.
After Margaret Posey scored for Mount Lebanon early in the second half, MT went on a 6-0 run to end the game. Rosenfeld, who scored a game-high five goals, found the net four times in the second half to lead the Streaks.
Schneider scored twice in the half to finish with four goals, while Taylor Allen added one for MT.
Manheim Township goalie Shannon Nee played another solid game with 11 saves.
The Township boys (19-5) took control early, only to have to battle at the end.
A pair of scores from Dan Wertz and one each from Quint Miller, Rob Wertz and Jake Weber gave the Streaks a 5-1 lead with 4:44 left in the opening quarter. The Tigers tacked on two goals with scores from Andrew Seiss and Dan Ochs to make it 5-3 after one.
"It was encouraging offensively," MT coach Rich Lefever said of the first quarter. "Defensively, (North Allegheny) only had the ball for about three minutes and put up three goals. That was discouraging."
North Allegheny took a 6-5 lead with 2:39 left in the first half before Conner DuBois found Weber for the equalizer with 15 seconds left in the second quarter.
"That was huge," Lefever said of the Weber goal. "The kids didn't seem like they lost their poise, but I thought it was a big momentum swing."
MT used that momentum to score the only goal in the third quarter — a Dan Wertz to Mark Stratton hookup —before Rob Wertz gave the Streaks a two-goal lead with a score early in the fourth quarter.
Ryan Worsna made it a one-point game, scoring for North Allegheny as the Streaks held on to a 8-7 lead. With less than three minutes left in the game, MT goalie Brian Heckert (6 saves) made two point-blank stops to maintain the lead before Rob Wertz and Grady Wirth traded goals to end the game.
"Those saves were possibly game-wining," Lefever said of Heckert's stops.

Springfield-Delco 10, Hempfield 1: Derek Kline put in the lone goal for the Black Knights (20-5) in their loss to Springfield-Delco at Governor Mifflin.
In other girls' first-round games:
Strath Haven 19, Penn Manor 4: Emily Garrity scored nine goals, including six in the second half, as the Panthers routed the Comets. Kelly Ruffini scored a pair of goals to help Strath Haven open up a 3-0 lead just 2:40 into the game.
Cathryn Altdoerffer scored two goals to lead Penn Manor (20-3), which was outshot 35-9.
Hempfield 14, Upper St. Clair 8: Auburn Weisensale scored six goals and added an assist, and Ashley Bupp tallied four goals and five assists as the Black Knights (19-6) defeated the Panthers at Hempfield Area High School in Greensburg.
