Pitt coach highlights Manheim Touchdown Club banquet

University of Pittsburgh football coach and former NFL coach Dave Wannstedt will be the featured speaker at the annual Manheim Touchdown Club banquet Tuesday, May 12, at Lancaster Host Resort & Conference Center.

Wannstedt coaches former Manheim Township star quarterback Pat Bostick and also coached former Bishop McDevitt standout running back and Philadelphia Eagles draft pick LeSean McCoy.

The banquet will honor Lebanon quarterback James Capello, Cocalico running back/defensive back Kyle Fisher and Lancaster Catholic QB Kyle Smith, who represent the three finalists for the 2008 Lancaster-Lebanon League High School Football Player of the Year award as chosen by the media.

Also honored will be the College Players of the Year as chosen by the L-L League Quarterbacks Club.

Penn State defensive lineman Jared Odrick, a graduate of Lebanon High, has been named the Division I and I-AA Player of the Year.

The Division II-III Player of the Year is Charlie Parker, a Lebanon Valley College running back and Hempfield grad.

Sam Collins, a center for Abilene Christian University, will receive the Gene Upshaw Division II Lineman of the Year Award.

The 70 players and coaching staffs for the L-L League Tri-County All-Star Football Game will be introduced. Columbia head coach Jason Shoff will coach the South team, while Annville-Cleona assistant coach Mike Miller heads the North All-Stars.

The game will be held Saturday, May 23, at 7 p.m. at Manheim Central's Elden Rettew Field.

Proceeds from the game will benefit the Manheim Touchdown Club's Scholarship Endowment Trust Fund.

Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students. Tickets will be available at the gate.
