A Ford Explorer traveling west on Route 372 in Drumore Township hit a buggy carrying three Amish teenagers late Saturday afternoon.

The three teens — ages and names have not been released — and the two passengers in the SUV were taken to Lancaster General Hospital.

Rescuers had to pry the driver's door open. Deputy Chief Richard Furhman, of the Rawlinsville Fire Company, said the driver was trapped inside for a few minutes after the fire departments arrived at the scene.

The teens in the buggy were thrown onto the road. Furhman said one of the teens dragged the other two to the side of the road, where all three were lying when emergency personnel arrived.

The horse died after the crash.

The crash happened at the top of a hill near Penny Road at about 5:45 p.m. Both vehicles were traveling in the same direction. After the collision, the SUV hit a tree in a yard.

Furhman said that the two people in the SUV were lucid and talking to each other when leaving for the hospital, while the three teens seemed to be in more critical condition. No conditions were available Saturday night.

Rawlinsville and Quarryville fire companies responded.
