A Chester County man was in custody Tuesday after attempting to flee police and causing an accident outside of Quarryville,  state police said.

When a trooper attempted to pull over Edward M. Hicks, 21, of Oxford, for an alleged traffic violation, Hicks fled north on Route 472 in his Chrysler sedan before spinning out of control while trying to negotiate a curve south of Dry Wells Road.

Police said Hicks' vehicle then crashed into a southbound pickup truck and  struck a utility pole.

The driver of the truck suffered a shoulder injury.

Hicks was taken into custody and charged with fleeing and eluding police, recklessly endangering another person, accidents involving damage to unattended property and accidents involving death or serious bodily injury. He was sent to Lancaster County Prison.
