A prisoner who escaped from Lancaster General Hospital Tuesday in leg irons has been captured, city police said shortly after noon today.

Ovett Ramos, 20, had been arrested Sunday on an outstanding bench warrant for not appearing in court on a charge of receiving stolen property. Monday night, he was taken from Lancaster County Prison to LGH for an MRI scan for an unspecified problem. Late Tuesday morning, Ramos was awaiting a doctor's opinion on the fourth floor when a Lancaster County Prison corrections officer took a bathroom break without securing the prisoner--a standard procedure, according to Robert Bodnar, associate warden of Lancaster County Prison.

Ramos ran down a hall, down four flours and out of the hospital dressed in leg irons, booties and a hospital gown. At least a dozen city police, 10 prison officers, a K9 dog unit and a state police helicopter launched a manhunt.

City police were to release details of the prisoner's capture later this afternoon.
