A horse pulling a buggy strayed from a Salisbury Township farm Saturday evening and ran into six occupied vehicles, officials said.
The runaway horse fled the Stoltzfus farm on Mine Road in Salisbury Township about 5:45 p.m., investigators said. The horse had just returned from a trip or was harnessed in preparation for one when it was spooked and darted off the farm, officials said.
Six occupied vehicles on Routes 41 and 741 were damaged by the horse and buggy, according to state police. No injuries were reported to the motorists or the horse.
The horse didn't run far — maybe half a mile — but the damage it caused spread across two townships (Sadsbury and Salisbury) in eastern Lancaster County.
Daniel F. Stoltzfus, 37, owns the farm, horse and buggy, according to investigators. He wasn't charged with a crime Sunday.
His horse fled the farm and ran east on Route 741, then south on Route 41, officials said. Most of the damaged vehicles were stopped at the intersection of those two roads, officials said.
The drivers were identified as: Mahlon Lapp, 18, Paradise; Abbey Davies, 20, Gap; Mary Liney, 20, Gap; Glenda Derster, 53, Lancaster; Robert Eldredge, 39, Cochranville; and Rodney Letts of Northeast, Md.
A damage estimate wasn't available Sunday. Most of the damaged cars were newer models. Eldredge was in a 2007 Chevy pickup and Liney a 2005 Lincoln Navigator.
None of the cars had to be towed, fire officials said. Paradise firefighters, Pennsylvania State Police and people from the farm helped capture the runaway horse.
Parts of Routes 41 and 741 were closed while the crash scenes were cleared, officials said.
