Kegel's Seafood Restaurant, 551 W. King St., has a new group of owners who are making some changes at the city landmark.

Eric and Kathy Maurer and John Painter are now the managing owners of the restaurant at the northwest corner of West King and Pine streets.

Since they took over in the last several months, the new owners have done extensive cleaning, replaced some equipment and redone the bar menu at the 225-seat restaurant. They soon will unveil a revised dinner menu with more non-seafood items. Typical dinner entree prices are in the $15-to-$20 range.

Within weeks, the new owners plan to unveil a cigar bar and by February will begin work to move the 15-seat bar from a middle room to the dining room that faces King Street.

Current hours: 11 a.m to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. or later Friday, 2 to 9 p.m. or later Saturday, noon to 7 p.m. Sunday. Extra hours will be added soon.

Clarence Kegel opened the restaurant in 1941. His sons, Thomas and J. David, were the most recent owners and are staying at the restaurant under the new ownership team.

Bloomfield closes

Bloomfield Square Italian Restaurant, 3140 Lititz Pike, closed Dec. 7.

The 237-seat restaurant, which opened in 1993, was a popular breakfast spot, but a manager said a slow dinner business and the general economic downturn hurt business, forcing the restaurant to shut down.

Bloomfield Square Italian Restaurant sits at the entrance to the Bloomfield Square shopping center.

KB closing by Feb.

The KB Toys stores at Rockvale and Park City Center will close by Feb. 15. The stores are now conducting liquidation sales.

Last week, the toy retailer announced that it was closing all of its stores as part of a bankruptcy filing. KB Toys operated about 400 retail, outlet, and temporary stores.
