2 women still hospitalized from Gap crash

Two women remained hospitalized today from a fiery fatal crash Friday on Route 30 near Gap.

Kristy Lynn Noel, 30, of Gap,. died in the three-car accident, which was reported at 10:30 p.m. Friday near Hoffmeier Road in Salisbury Township, Lancaster state police said.

Cheryl Baranzano, 44, of Cochranville, and Priscilla Marshman, 63, of Parkesburg, both suffered burns, police said.

Baranzano was listed in serious condition today at Lancaster General Hospital. Marshman was flown to the Burn Center at Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Delaware County. She was listed in critical, but stable, condition this morning.

Noel was driving a 2004 Dodge Neon west on Route 30 when a westbound 1997 Honda Civic, driven by Ryan William Lebus, 23, of Paradise, struck her car, Trooper Kevin L. Reed said.

The impact sent Noel's car into the eastbound lane, where it collided with a 2006 Ford Escape driven by Baranzano, Reed said.

The Noel and Baranzano vehicles burst into flames, police said.   Marshman was a passenger in the Baranzano vehicle.

Noel was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident investigation continues.

Firefighters from Gap, Kinzers,  Paradise, Christiana and Rising Sun, Md., responded to the scene with  several ambulance crews.

There have now been 49 traffic deaths in Lancaster County this year, compared to  58 at this time in 2007.

• A Manheim woman is in serious condition at General Hospital from a Sunday morning crash on Old Line Road in Rapho Township, Ephrata state police said.

Suzanne B. Lausch, 58, lost control of her 2003 Ford Taurus on an icy right curve as she drove west toward North Colebrook Road at 7:22 a.m., Trooper Jerry Harper said.

The car spun, struck an embankment on the south side of the road and twice overturned, Harper said.

Mastersonville and Manheim firefighters freed Lausch from the car, which had extensive damage, police said.

• On Thursday, two women were injured in a two-vehicle crash that has resulted in a drunken-driving charge, Ephrata state police said.

Teresa M. Bush, 30, of Manheim, was driving west on Mount Joy Road (Route 772) in Rapho Township at about 7:30 p.m. when she missed a right curve near Weaver Road, Harper reported.

Bush's 1985 Oldsmobile Cutlass crossed into the  eastbound lane and collided head-on with a 1999 Dodge Ram van driven by Leroy Z. Zimmerman, 52, of Columbia, Harper said.

Both vehicles had extensive damage. Bush and her passenger, Naomi Harvey, 34, Manheim, were injured. DUI charges and summary traffic offenses have been filed against Bush, police said.

• Manheim Township police  investigated two crashes resulting in injuries and DUI charges.

Jaime G. Figueroa, 49, of 4 W. New St., Lancaster, was arrested for DUI after his vehicle struck a business on Manheim Pike, just north of the city, shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday, police said.

Figueroa was driving north on Manheim Pike, crossed the southbound lane and his vehicle hit the side of Lancaster Starter and Alternator, 1128 Manheim Pike, police said.

Figueroa was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries, police said.

Township police arrested Keith M. Varcoe, 40, of 2817 Willow Street Pike, Willow Street, for suspected DUI following a Saturday night crash on Harrisburg Avenue, near Dillerville Road.

Varcoe's eastbound vehicle struck the back of a stopped vehicle operated by Rosita Rodriguez, of Lancaster, shortly after 10 p.m, police said.

Rodriguez and three passengers complained of minor injuries and were taken to a hospital, police said.
