Miss Molly was brought into the shelter by a family who said they realized they do not like animals.
Timid and scared upon arrival, Molly, 1, has slowly come out of her shell. Given time and space to recover, she's started to show the fun and spunky personality appropriate to her terrier-mix background. Molly loves to play with toys and other dogs, and ignores the shelter mascot cat whose territory she has been sharing in our administrative offices.
Molly needs someone who can give her a little more time and space to overcome her experience at her first home, but she bonds quickly with new friends. Miss Molly might be a wallflower today, but she has great potential to become a social butterfly given a loving environment to build her confidence.
Due to her initial shyness, she would do best in a quiet home without very young children. Molly is a medium- to small-sized dog, with a low-shedding rough coat. With daily walks, she could live in a smaller home or apartment. She has years of friendship to offer her new family.
Miss Molly is available for adoption at the Humane League of Lancaster County, 2195 Lincoln Highway East. Available animals can also be viewed at
www.humaneleague.com. Shelter hours are noon to 6 p.m. Monday; noon to 7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday; noon to 5 p.m. Friday; and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The shelter is closed Wednesday. Call the league at 393-6551.
From Nov. 17 to 24, the league received 62 dogs and 153 cats. Thirty-three dogs and 38 cats were adopted; nine stray dogs were reclaimed by their owners. 12 dogs and 10 cats were transferred to other rescue organizations.
• The league is giving our cats the gift of a home for the holidays through special seasonal adoption rates. Cats that reside in one of our cat colony rooms, some of whom have been waiting to be adopted for nearly a year, will have their adoption fees waived and will be considered a "gift to a good home."
Adopt two feline friends of any age for one adoption fee. If cats from two different age groups are adopted, the higher adoption fee will be charged.
