The Millersville women finished second Saturday in the Yellow Jacket Invitational behind Division III swim meet host Randolph-Macon. Millersville tallied 512.5 points, while Randolph-Macon turned in 690. Millersville's Brittany Neifert was named Swimmer of the Meet. She turned in PSAC-qualifying times in the 100- and 200-yard butterfly. Her 2:17.96 in the 200 fly was a school record.
• Franklin & Marshall bested the University of Rochester, but fell to Carnegie Mellon and Washington & Lee in a nonconference quadrangular swim meet Saturday afternoon. F&M (4-4) posted a 139-123 win over Rochester. Carnegie Mellon, which went unscathed on the day, handed F&M a 171-91 setback, while Washington & Lee defeated the Diplomats 173-89. Olivia Hill took first in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:57.08), the Diplomats' only first-place finish.
• Towson sophomore Kayla Zeller (Hempfield) won the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:09.20) Saturday, Nov. 15, in a meet against UMBC and host University of Maryland. Zeller placed second in the 500 freestyle (4:59.46). Towson freshman Cari Czarnecki (Cocalico) won the 100 breaststroke (1:04.34). Czarnecki was third in the 200 individual medley (2:09.74). Maryland ended Towson's string of 16 straight dual-meet victories and handed Towson its first loss of the season 156-142. Towson earned a split by defeating UMBC 226-70.
Men's swimming: Franklin & Marshall was swept in a nonconference quadrangular with Washington & Lee (201-61), Carnegie Mellon (202.5-59.5) and Rochester (140-122). Washington & Lee defeated all three opponents in the meet.
Women's Cross-Country: Millersville junior Priscilla Jennings (Solanco) placed 56th Saturday at the NCAA Division II Cross-Country Championships at Slippery Rock University.
Jennings, Millersville's first national qualifier since 1999, covered the 6K course in 23:10, just 2:11 off the pace set by the champion, Seattle Pacific's Jessica Pixler.
Shippensburg's Neely Spence finished second, 28 seconds behind Pixler. Spence's season included a third-place finish at the Atlantic Regional, a fifth-place finish at the PSAC Championships and three-time PSAC Runner of the Week honors.
• Elizabethtown senior Tiffany Kulp finished 109th with a time of 22:34.59 at the NCAA Division III Women's Cross-Country Championship at Hanover College. Marie Borner of Bethel College won the individual title in 20:43.91.
Men's Cross-Country: Lock Haven sophomore Tim Getz (Lampeter-Strasburg) finished 59th Saturday at the NCAA Division II Championships at Slippery Rock University. Getz ran the snow-covered 10K course in 32:38 and was the top runner for Lock Haven, which finished 19th as a team.
Chico State senior Scott Bauhs won the race in 30:23, and Adams State won the team title with 67 points, edging Western State (88).
Wrestling: Franklin & Marshall produced a pair of place-winners at the Navy Classic Saturday afternoon. Al Gianforti placed fourth at 149 pounds, while Justin Herbert placed fifth at 174 pounds. Herbert's fifth-place finish marks the second consecutive season in which he placed at Navy. The Diplomat senior finished third at 174 a year ago. F&M was ninth among 12 teams.
Gianforti wrestled his way through the consolation bracket with five wins before falling 19-6 in the consolation final to Virginia Tech's Peter Gates.
Herbert made his way into the semifinals of the championship bracket with wins over Navy's Anthony Laurita and Virginia Tech's Anthony Trongone before being bumped by Navy's Luke Reberfus. Herbert fell to eventual third-place finisher Shane Riccio of Bucknell, then defeated Navy's Mike Billings 19-10 for fifth place.
• Elizabethtown competed in three matches Saturday at the Messiah Duals. The Blue Jays were defeated by Shippensburg (28-10), Waynesburg (27-18) and Seton Hill (19-13).
Senior Jereme Heisey (Manheim Central), junior Mike Lussier, sophomore Bill Meaney, junior Eric Rhoads (Manheim Central), first-year student Kyle Deeds and junior Deron Sharp each had a win for the Blue Jays (1-3).
Men's soccer: Matt Campbell (Conestoga Valley), a senior defender, started all 21 games and had three assists this season for Susquehanna (13-7-1), which won the Landmark Conference and lost 1-0 in double overtime to No. 9 Ohio Wesleyan in the first round of the NCAA Division III playoffs. Campbell was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District II second team.
• Messiah (19-2-2) handed third-ranked Montclair State (21-1) its first loss of the season, winning its NCAA Division III sectional semifinal 1-0. First-year student Danny Thompson scored the winning goal with just over five minutes left in the second overtime period.
Women's soccer: Teresa Rynier (Conestoga Valley), a sophomore defender, has helped James Madison reach the NCAA Division I Round of 16. The Dukes (14-6-2) played at No. 3 Portland (19-1) in a game started late Saturday night in Oregon.
Rynier leads the Dukes with 14 assists, a school single-season record. She has four goals and is second on the team with 22 points. She was named to the all-Colonial Athletic Association first team and the conference tournament first team.
Freshman Megan Fessler (Lancaster Catholic) also is on the JMU roster.
• Second-ranked Messiah (21-0-2) handled the elements and the University of Chicago (13-6-2) in a 4-1 victory in its NCAA Division III sectional semifinal. The Falcons are one win away from a berth in the Final Four.
Freshman forward Lisa Wingard (Lancaster Mennonite) and senior forward Rachel Horning (Lancaster Mennonite) each registered an assist.
Field Hockey: Messiah College (17-2) fell 5-2 to No. 4 Tufts (19-1) in the NCAA Division III semifinals Saturday in Collegeville. Falcon sophomore midfielder Lauren Tennis (Warwick) registered two shots on goal in the loss.
Softball: Donegal senior shortstop Morgan Kibler recently accepted a scholarship offer and signed a national letter of intent to continue her academic and softball careers at Division I Jacksonville (Fla.) University. Kibler, who was the Lancaster Newspapers All-League selection at shortstop last year, also considered Monmouth, Buffalo, Delaware and George Mason.
Men's Squash: Franklin & Marshall improved its record to 1-1 with a 9-0 sweep of George Washington University Saturday afternoon. The Diplomats won seven of the nine scoring matches in three games to hand GW (7-2) its second loss of the season. In the No. 1 position, Nadav Tannen (1-1) picked up his first win in an F&M uniform with a 9-6, 9-2, 9-3 dispatching of Jose Calderon.
Women's Squash: Franklin & Marshall fell to 0-2 on the season with a 9-0 loss to George Washington.
