Just hours after he was involved in a Sunday morning crash and arrested for suspected drunken driving, a 50-year-old Manheim Township man was involved in another DUI-related crash, township police said.

Following the second crash, Michael R. Hufford, of 1407 Fruitville Pike, was committed to Lancaster County Prison in default of $10,000 cash bail, police said.

The first accident happened at 10:50 a.m. Sunday on Fruitville Pike at Roseville Road. Heading north, Hufford's vehicle struck the back of a stopped vehicle operated by Betty Miller, of Lancaster, police said.

Miller had a minor injury. Police arrested Hufford for suspected DUI and, after processing, released him to his girlfriend.

Hufford's second crash happened at 3:58 p.m. Sunday on Lititz Pike at Glen Moore Circle. Police said Hufford was driving north on Lititz Pike and turned left in front of a southbound vehicle, operated by Valerie Gebhard, of Lancaster.

There were no injuries. Hufford was again arrested for DUI. Instead of being released, he was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge David Miller, who set bail.

Meanwhile, another county man faces a DUI charge following a pursuit in the Columbia area, police said.

Columbia police began pursuing Jared Singleton, of Maple Drive, Columbia, shortly before 1 a.m. Friday when officers saw him driving a blue Ford Mustang with no headlights activated on Ironville Pike.

Police said Singleton "took off " and traveled north on Kinderhook Road at a high rate of speed. His car struck a trash can, recycling bin and a water pump when he drove off the 700 block of Kinderhook Road in West Hempfield Township, police said.

At the Kinderhook Road/Maple Drive intersection, Singleton drove through a yard, barely missing an occupied house, police said. He was apprehended a short time later.

Singleton was charged with DUI, fleeing-eluding police, six traffic violations and two additional criminal charges, police said.

Also on Friday morning, a tractor-trailer driven by David Smucker, of New Holland, struck the back of a car driven by Kristy Devonshire, of Terre Hill, who was turning into the McDonald's restaurant on Route 23, west of New Holland, police said.

Devonshire was taken to Ephrata Community Hospital following the 9:16 a.m. crash. Her pet dog died after being thrown out of the car from the impact, police said.

Smucker, who was not injured, is being cited for following too closely, police said.

A motorcyclist and buggy driver were injured in a Leacock Township crash on Friday, Lancaster state police reported.

Fannie F. Stoltzfus, 81, of Ronks, and Edward B. Carvell Jr., 49, of Lancaster, were both heading west on Irishtown Road. Stoltzfus was operating a buggy, and Carvell a 2008 Harley-Davidson cycle, Trooper William J. Colvin said.

Carvell tried to pass the buggy near Weavertown Road as the buggy started to make a left turn, Colvin said.  Stoltzfus had minor injuries. Carvell had moderate injuries, and the Gordonville Ambulance took him to Lancaster General Hospital for treatment, police said.
