4 inducted into Hall at Garden Spot

Four individuals were inducted into the Garden Spot Athletic Hall of Fame Friday.

The inductees, who were introduced at halftime of Friday's football game, are Diana (Yunginger) Kocon, Kirsten Andrews, Darryl Jackson and Terry Myer.

• Diana (Yunginger) Kocon (Class of 1977) earned 10 varsity letters in field hockey (three), basketball (four) and track (three).

She was an all-star in both field hockey and basketball. She led the basketball team in scoring in 1975-76 and had 1,124 career points. In track, she was a district finalist in the 80-yard hurdles and 800-yard relay as a junior.

As East Stroudsburg University, she was a two-year starter in field hockey and four-year starter in basketball. In 1979 and 1980, she earned the basketball Outstanding Player Award.

She was presented by her husband, Bernard Kocon.

• Kirsten Andrews (Class of 2003) was on the volleyball team for three years and the track team for four years.

In volleyball, she was named to the Lancaster-Lebanon League all-star second team as a senior. She was a member of the first Garden Spot girls' volleyball team to reach the District Three playoffs.

In track, she holds Garden Spot records in the 100 hurdles (14.4), pole vault (11-6) and 400 (50.8). She also holds L-L League records in the 100 hurdles (14.4) and pole vault (11-1) and the District Three record in the pole vault (11-6). She won the district title in the pole vault in 2003.

She graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and holds the school record in six indoor and outdoor events. She was named the 2007 Patriot League Women's Scholar-Athlete of the Year, 2007 Patriot League Women's Track & Field Scholar Athlete of the Year and 2007 Patriot League Women's Indoor Track & Field Scholar Athlete of the Year.

She is on active duty in the Navy and is completing her master's degree in operations research at the University of Delaware.

She was presented by her former track coach, Russ White.

• Darryl Jackson was a Garden Spot coach for 32 years in four different sports.

He grew up in Youngstown, Ohio, and majored in heath and physical education at Eastern Mennonite College.

He began his coaching career at Garden Spot in 1975. He coached football for 24 years, from 1978-2001, working under four different head coaches.

He was an assistant wrestling coach from 1982-1999 and assistant softball coach from 1988-1996. He has been a track coach for the past 11 years.

He was presented by his son, Chad Jackson.

• Terry Myer (Class of 1968) was a three-year varsity letter winner in both soccer and baseball.

He hit .400 and was a first-team Lancaster County all-star for the team that won the Section Two baseball championship in 1968.

He played for soccer teams that went 43-4-3 and won two inter-district (state) tournaments. As a senior, he led the county in scoring and was named the county's most valuable player.

He played soccer at Elizabethtown College and now lives in Sarasota, Fla.
