The Point: CoolQuiz serves up "fun" quizzes, brainteasers and puzzles for kids, teens or even the bored adults.
BREAKING IT DOWN:
Makes the Grade: A
Genre: Trivia/Entertainment
Entertainment Factor: This Web site's claim to fame is clearly entertainment. Dubbed "the world's largest trivia site," CoolQuiz is home to bountiful quizzes, polls, puzzles and mind-benders. CoolQuiz is quirky. Some inventive titles listed under the "Quizzes" menu include "Movie Poster Quiz," "Quote Quiz" and even "Sound-clip Quiz." This wealth of knowledge (no matter how trivial) entertains in spite of its educational appeal.
The "Who Could it Be?" feature under "Puzzles" allows visitors to the site to read a descriptive paragraph that relays the accomplishments of one of history's well-known, play guess-who and click for the answer. Simplistic, but very, very addicting — especially when the "Give me another one!" button is right below the previous answer.
Easy Street?: Somehow this site manages to pack volumes into several brightly hued menus. "Trivia," "Quizzes," "Humor," "Fun Pages" and "Connect" each entail a separate page of links to explore, but a speedy passage to home base is at first difficult to locate. It's almost as if this one site encompasses several. Nonetheless, perhaps aimless wandering is the best strategy to employ in cruising a jam-packed trivia site. Just remember to bookmark your favorites.
Hot or Not: At first glance, CoolQuiz looks and sounds like an online creation for the younger generation. It boasts all the colorful graphics and attention-grabbing icons common to a site for the middle school or perhaps even elementary crowd. But if you give it a chance, and don't judge this Web site by its home page (that is, if you find it), you'll think these fun facts are pretty interesting and this site is pretty hot.
