Beck, who died Aug. 28 at the age of 81, was a veteran of World War II, serving aboard the USS Alabama in the Pacific.

Active in local Memorial Day observances for many decades, he was a sixth-generation funeral director and owned and operated Edgar O. Beck Funeral Home, New Holland, for more than 50 years. To many, he was known as "Mr. New Holland."
