State Sen. Mike Brubaker (R-36) checked out of Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in Philadelphia today, following surgery on Tuesday to remove a cancerous prostate.
Brubaker, a first-term Republican senator from Lititz, had been diagnosed in March with prostate cancer. Test found the cancer had not spread.
Dr. David Lee, of Penn's Abramson Cancer Center, performed a da Vinci prostatectomy, a minimally invasive surgery that is robot assisted.
"The surgery itself went very smoothly and the Senator is doing well," Dr. Lee said in a statement released by the senator's office. "If no complications arise, patients typically return to work full time in two weeks."
Brubaker said he was optimistic about the success of the surgery and confident he would return to work shortly.
"My family and I want to express our sincere gratitude for the support we have received from the community," Brubaker said. "It is truly a blessing to represent the fine people of the 36th District and I am pleased to serve them in the state Senate."
