Each license plate will cost $20 in addition to the normal annual registration fee to obtain. PennDOT is required to certify those veterans applying for such plates as serving in one of the above mentioned military campaigns or in the case of the general service veteran plate, any military service by the applicant.
Specialty license plates are only available for passenger cars, motor homes and light trucks with a registered gross weight of 9,000 pounds or less. Specialty plates are not available for motorcycles and trailers.
There are several military plates for veterans of various conflicts already available and include Pearl Harbor Survivors, Korean War, Vietnam Conflict, World War II and the Persian Gulf War.
The specialty plate was created through the legislative passage and enactment of Act 50 of 2005. For more information on these and other specialty license plates or for an application, visit the PennDOT Driver and Vehicle Service website at www.dmv.state.pa.us.
