Back in February, Cynthia J. Barnett signed a one-day rental agreement on a car at Enterprise Rent-A-Car on Manheim Pike. Then, police say, she drove off in the vehicle, a 2008 Dodge Avenger.

Enterprise employees say that's the last they saw of her or the car.

They and Manheim Township police have made repeated but futile efforts to contact the 58-year-old woman in the four months since the alleged drive-off Feb. 28.

"We have been unable to locate her," Manheim Township police Sgt. Tom Rudzinski said. "She might have a story, but we haven't heard it."

On Tuesday, police filed a count of theft of leased property against Barnett, of 22 Church St., Lancaster, and issued a warrant for her arrest.

Police also registered the car's license plate number in a national police database as a stolen vehicle. Police anywhere who spot the vehicle will pull it over and charge the driver with receiving stolen property, Rudzinski said.

Police said whoever has the car will not be able to renew registration or insurance for it because it's registered as stolen.

"I don't know what the benefit down the road would be for her," Rudzinski said of Barnett.

Anyone with information about the suspect or vehicle should contact Manheim Township police at 569-6401.
