Police are investigating the death of a 4-year-old girl who apparently drowned Sunday at a water park in East Lampeter Township.

Few details about the incident were available Sunday night, but East Lampeter Township police said medical units were dispatched to Caribbean Indoor Water Park, 2102 Lincoln Highway East, for a reported drowning shortly after 5 p.m.

When medical personnel arrived, bystanders were performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the girl, police said. Medical personnel from Lafayette Fire Company and Lancaster Emergency Medical Services Association continued CPR and transported the girl to Lancaster General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Dr. Stephen Diamantoni, the Lancaster County coroner, said the case is being treated as an apparent drowning, but an autopsy will be performed today to determine if there were any other factors involved in the girl's death.

Police said the girl was at the park with family members, but could not say whether she was with her parents.

The name of the victim, a Lancaster County resident, was withheld Sunday night pending notification of all family members.

The water park is located within a Howard Johnson Motel.
