A local restaurateur died early Sunday when the motorcycle he was riding struck a turning vehicle in Manor Township, investigators said.

Calogero "Lee" Failla, 37, died at the scene of the three-vehicle crash on Route 999 (Blue Rock Road), near Failla's home in Washington Boro, police said.

Failla and another cyclist, Ryan Flosser, were riding west on Route 999 when they both struck the same car about 1:40 a.m., Manor Township police said.

Flosser, of Prospect Road, Washington Boro, was seriously injured and remained hospitalized Sunday night.

The driver of the car, Eric Rineer of Lancaster, wasn't hurt.

Police were investigating Sunday what caused the early-morning wreck. Officials contacted Sunday didn't comment on how fast the cyclists were traveling or if they were wearing helmets.

No charges have been filed in connection with the crash, Manor Township Sgt. Carolyn Gundel said Sunday evening.

The cyclists were riding west together prior to the crash in the 3400 block of Route 999, investigators said.

Rineer was making a left turn from the eastbound lane when the cyclists collided with his car, according to investigators.

The impact "vaulted" both riders onto the roadway, investigators said.

Lancaster County deputy coroner Lisa Billiter pronounced Failla dead at the scene.

County coroner Dr. Stephen Diamantoni said an autopsy is scheduled for today. Toxicology tests also will be performed, he said.

A nursing supervisor at Lancaster General Hospital said Flosser was in serious condition Sunday night.

Failla had just opened an Italian restaurant, C. Failla's Trattoria & Grill, earlier this month on East Orange Street in Lancaster city.

He formerly owned Failla's Italian Restaurant on Columbia Avenue before selling it and working as a technician at a motorcycle shop, according to newspaper archives.

His parents originally owned the Columbia Avenue restaurant and Failla's Pastry Shop on North Queen Street in Lancaster city, before moving to Arizona.

Failla is the 19th person, and the fourth motorcyclist, to die this year in a vehicle crash in Lancaster County, according to newspaper archives.
