A car crashed into an insurance building along Route 230 in Mount Joy today, but nobody was hurt, police said.
Three women were in the car, which pulled into a parking lot alongside the State Farm Insurance building, 401 W. Main St., at 7:03 a.m , Mount Joy police said.
One of the women reportedly was going to drop off an insurance payment, police said.
For an unknown reason — possibly because the driver hit the accelerator instead of the brakes — the car went forward and crashed into the side of the one-story brick building, located about four blocks west of the center of town, police said.
Most of the car, which was described as a small station wagon, was imbedded in the building, which is at the Springville Road intersection.
"All you could see was the back end of the vehicle," said a police official.
The three women were able to get out of the car, police said. They were uninjured.
A nearby auto service firm pulled the car out of the building. It left "a big hole in the side," said a firm employee.
The accident remains under investigation. Mount Joy area firefighters and an ambulance crew responded as the initial report to Lancaster County Control was that people were trapped in the car with possible injuries.
Joel Langdon, who is the Mount Joy State Farm agent, said he would try to keep the office open for business today, depending on wheteher electricity could be restored.
