State police continue to investigate who may have stolen two English bulldog puppies worth $3,000 in Elizabeth Township nearly a week ago.
The owner of the dogs, Joyce Weaver, of 654 West Brubaker Valley Road, said she had advertised the 9-week-old puppies for sale in Lancaster and Philadelphia newspapers last week.
"Right before I went to work on Monday," Weaver said. "I got a call around 12:29 (p.m.) about the puppies. I told the man where I lived but said we won't be home until 6."
When Weaver got home, she discovered that someone had removed an air-conditioner from the kitchen window at the rear of her house and crawled inside her home.
The mother bulldog, named Baby Doll, had been sprayed in the face and penned in another room in the house, she said, along with her two other dogs, a pair of pugs named Bear and Rosy.
The puppies were gone.
Weaver described the puppies as a black female and a reddish male.
Neighbors told Weaver they saw a gray sport utility vehicle in the area of her home at the time of the burglary.
The classified advertisement had been in the paper about a week, Weaver said, and the caller identified himself as someone from the Philadelphia area.
Trooper Jason Fretz, who initially investigated the incident, asked anyone with information to call state police in Ephrata at 721-7439.
Weaver said she is offering an unspecified monetary award for the return of the dogs.
In a second incident, a 13-week-old male shih tzu puppy was reported stolen Thursday evening from a van parked in the Red Rose Shopping Center.
Oreo, who is mostly white and black with "white fluff" on his head and wearing a royal blue collar and leash, was stolen about 7:30 p.m., according to his owner, Michelle Ayala.
Ayala said her husband parked in front of the Weis market and ran inside to purchase pizza. The front doors were locked, but apparently not the sliding back door, Ayala said, because when he returned the puppy was gone.
The puppy was a present for the couple's two daughters, ages 5 and 2, to help them deal with the passing of their grandfather, Ayala said Friday.
Ayala said Oreo is sick and is in need of medication and special food.
Ayala said her family is offering a reward for Oreo's return.
Anyone with information is asked to call Lancaster city police at 735-3301.
