Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre will convert its musical stage to one of magic Monday, as The Professional Magician's Club of Lancaster presents "A Night of Comedy and Magic."

Among the acts on stage for this one-night-only event will be Richard and Joanne Gustafson, who have appeared on the Ed Sullivan show, as well as having performed on stage and TV with artists from Joan Rivers to George Burns.

Also appearing will be Al and Rebecca Lloyd, Tom McDonnell, Harrison Lampert, Mike Miller and comedy magician Jim Daly.

The show will be emceed by Jerry Remanicki, aka Professor Rem.

All of the performers are members of the Philadelphia Society of American Magicians, Assembly No. 4.

Coordinating the event, but not performing, will be 41-year-old Mike Snyder and his wife, Donna, Lancaster County's contribution to the world of magic.

"I'm pulling this whole thing together," he said.

Snyder has had a lifelong love affair with magic, performing his first paid gig when he was 12 years old.

He and Donna, his high school sweetheart, have made magic their lives.

"This is our full-time profession," he said.

The Snyders perform between 200 and 300 shows a year and have done their performances in 29 states, as well as Canada, Bermuda, Puerto Rico, Portugal, Mexico and the Caribbean. They've also performed on cruise ships.

"We'll go anywhere they'll pay us to go," Snyder said.

Among Snyder's most popular acts is the one in which he is handcuffed, tied in a sack and locked in a wooden trunk. Seconds later, the trunk is opened and out comes Donna.

"Donna and I exchange places in about three seconds," he said. "And not only is she found locked inside the crate, tied inside the bag in handcuffs, but she's also wearing a completely different costume. We feature that in most shows and people seem to really like to see it."

The Professional Magician's Club of Lancaster dates back to 1935. Today it has about 20 active members, ages 10 to 90.

The group also sponsors a local chapter of a national organization for fledgling magicians, the Society of Young Magicians.

The theater opens at 5:30 p.m. Monday with hors d'oeuvres and strolling magic by some of the club's local members, including Darrell Yoder, Jack Thompson, Almar and, from Philadelphia, Harrison Lampert, who also is featured in the main show.

Dinner and dessert buffets are included in the price.
