East Earl Township police are warning residents about a male-female burglary team that allegedly robbed a Reading Road home Tuesday.

Police said a man robbed a home in the 200 block of Reading Road (Route 625) of an undisclosed amount of money while a female partner distracted the homeowners in the backyard.

The suspects arrived at the home in a white Chevrolet pickup truck about 2 p.m., police said. They told the homeowners that a neighbor had hired them to build a fence and that a survey of their backyard was necessary.

While the woman and the homeowners reviewed the home's rear property lines, the man entered the front door of the house, police said. Police believe the man stole a small safe and went through several drawers and a purse in a bedroom.

The victims told police the couple spoke a foreign language to each other, which may have been Spanish.

Police describe the woman as about 5 feet 5 inches tall, with shoulder-length straight dark hair and olive skin. The man is described as white, 5 feet 9 inches tall, with fair skin. He wore a baseball cap and jeans.

The couple left the property traveling south on Route 625, police said.

East Earl police Chief Kevin McCarthy said a similar crime was reported in Downingtown Dec. 28.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to contact East Earl Township Police Department at 354-5593.
