After barely six months on the job, Elizabethtown Area School Superintendent Timothy Quinn has resigned citing personal reasons, the district said in a statement Tuesday.
The board's workshop meeting ended with members unanimously accepting Quinn's resignation as read by board president Jamie Rowley and immediately installing Amy Hodges Slamp as acting superintendent.
Slamp was named assistant superintendent in 2006.
Quinn did not attend the meeting.
Quinn was named superintendent in early July following the retirement of Allan Thrush, who held the job for 11 years.
Quinn previously served as assistant superintendent with Derry Township School District in Dauphin County.
Rowley, Slamp and district spokesman Troy Portser would not elaborate on the reason for Quinn's departure. Other board members would not discuss the resignation, either.
The board met in executive session prior to convening the public workshop, Rowley said.
Executive sessions by public entities are allowed only to discuss personnel issues, pending legal matters, collective bargaining agreements or real estate acquisitions.
The press release reads, "Our administrative leadership remains strong, and our faculty and staff remain fully dedicated toward achieving our educational goals for all children in our district."
During Quinn's brief tenure, the district made considerable changes to a long-term development plan for school buildings.
In September, the board approved a $40 million plan to build an intermediate school and renovate Mill Road and East High elementary schools.
