East Drumore Township residents questioned supervisors Oct. 4 about the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation's placement of a "signal ahead" sign on the south side of the new Buck intersection at Route 272 and Friendly Drive.
Residents Fran Reining and Marie Kinch said the sign is placed too close to the traffic signal and it does not provide motorists ample warning when traffic is backed up over the hill.
"It would be better if that "signal ahead" sign would be at the top of the hill," stated Scott Kreider, supervisor.
The supervisors agreed to contact PennDOT to suggest the sign be moved to the top of the hill near Deaver Road.
According to supervisor chairman Merril Carter, there was an accident at the new intersection two days after it was opened to traffic. A second accident took place within the first week of operation, he said.
Kreider said the township has requested an appraisal on 15 acres of land adjacent to the township building that is owned by Carter. He also recommended that Carter get an independent appraisal before the township enters into negotiations to buy the land for expansion of the existing facility or a new municipal building.
Carter announced that a decision to release a letter of credit made at the September meeting needs to be readdressed and is currently in the hands of the township solicitor.
Craig Deibler and Greg Lewis had requested the release of a $300,630 letter of credit for a land development plan at Scotland Road and Route 272. Deibler and Lewis had planned to open a used-car lot at the site, but the land is currently for sale.
Carter said the supervisors couldn't release the letter of credit because it is recorded with the used-car lot plan. He did not know when the attorneys would reach a decision.
The supervisors sold a 1993 GMC dump truck to Pilgrim's Oak Golf Course for $5,005. The money has been deposited into the liquid fuels account. Pilgrim's Oak Golf Course was the high bidder.
The supervisors agreed to divide $27,193 of firemen's relief money with Quarryville, Robert Fulton and Rawlinsville Fire companies. Quarryville will receive $13,403 Robert Fulton will get $11,000 and Rawlinsville will get $2,790.
The board heard from Dr. Martin Hudacs, Quarryville Library representative, who thanked them for their support. Hudacs said he hopes the supervisors will meet the state's recommendation of $5 per capita for the upcoming year.
