Two Lancaster men have been charged with stealing about $19,000 worth of metal fencing 11 months ago from a Manheim Township business.

John C. Harter, 37, of Sunset Avenue, and Gerald E. Huber, 40, of East Lemon Street, allegedly stole three skids of fencing last October at Fence Patrol, 1401 Vermont Ave., off Harrisburg Pike, township police said.

After taking the skids from inside a fenced-in portion of the business, the two men took some of the fencing to a recycling business and obtained "a small amount of cash," police said.

Detective John Wettlaufer has charged each man with burglary and theft, township police reported Thursday.

Wettlaufer also has filed multiple charges against a man who allegedly broke into vehicles parked at locations at or near the Hawthorne Center shopping plaza in the 2000 block of Fruitville Pike, near Roseville Road.

Hector J. Adorno-Burgos, 28, of Blue Jay Drive, Lancaster, has been charged with five counts of theft and five counts of criminal mischief, police said.

On Sept. 4, Adorno-Burgos allegedly took a phone and handcuffs from a Manheim Township police vehicle behind a business in the shopping center, Wettlaufer said.

The suspect also allegedly stole a stereo and wallet from a vehicle on Aug. 25, an iPod from a vehicle on Aug. 28, a stereo from a vehicle on Aug. 29, and a compact disc and cash from a vehicle on Sept. 1, police said.

East Lampeter Township police are filing theft charges against Jami May Whittemore, 1249 Lampeter Road, who allegedly stole about $150 from the register while working at Waffle House, 2499 Lincoln Highway East.

And East Lampeter police also are seeking two men who allegedly left Blockbuster Video, 1643 Lincoln Highway East, on Tuesday with 15 stolen video games valued at about $540.

Police said a white man in his 20s left the store at about 11:30 a.m. without paying for the games, and he shoved a female clerk who tried to stop him.

The thief fled in a black pickup truck being driven by another man, police said. The vehicle was last seen heading west on Old Philadelphia Pike.
