A 12-year-old boy died in an all-terrain-vehicle accident late Sunday afternoon in the Quarryville area.
Lancaster state police are not releasing the boy's name because he is a juvenile.
The accident happened at 5:33 p.m. Sunday in the 900 block of Buck Road (Route 372) between Buck and Quarryville in East Drumore Township.
The boy was riding the ATV on a grass trail along the edge of a cornfield about one-tenth mile east of 946 Buck Road. He was wearing a helmet and goggles, Trooper Anthony L. Holloway said.
The boy reportedly was riding the ATV behind a relative who was on a dirt bike. When the boy left the trail and drove onto a gravel driveway, his ATV began to slide on the gravel, Holloway said.
The boy drove the ATV onto grass on the east side of the driveway but then lost control of the vehicle. The ATV rolled over on top of the boy, causing severe internal injuries, Holloway said.
The boy was taken to Lancaster General Hospital where he died, the trooper said.
In another weekend accident, two women were seriously injured when a car struck the front of a house and a tree stump on Turnpike Road in West Donegal Township.
Elizabethtown and Rheems firefighters freed the two women who were "heavily trapped" in a Mitsubishi sedan that crashed at about 9 p.m. Saturday in the 1100 block of Turnpike Road, north of the Masonic Homes property.
Names of the two women have not yet been released by Northwest Regional police. Both were taken to Hershey Medical Center.
Elizabethtown Fire Company Capt. Bill Bestwick said the car traveled off the road and struck the front porch of the house and a large tree stump .
A York couple riding a motorcycle were injured in a Sunday afternoon crash at the Route 741/Paradise Lane intersection in Paradise Township, Lancaster state police said.
Shortly before 2 p.m., a 2004 Chrysler van operated by Edward Lukosius, 60, of Hockessin,, Del., struck the back of a 1998 Kawasaki Vulcan cycle operated by Brian Hagerich, 38, of York, Trooper Andrew Manning reported.
Hagerich and his wife, Jaylayne Hagerich, 33, were both hurt and taken to General Hospital for treatment. Mrs. Hagerich was admitted and listed in fair condition this morning, a hospital official reported.
In other crashes:
• A 17-year-old Quarryville boy was driving west in the 300 block of Scotland Road in East Drumore Township when his car struck the back of a parked pickup truck at 8:47 a.m. Sunday, Trooper Ryan L. Stephens said.
The parked truck was unoccupied, but had its hazard lights on as the driver was part of a hot air balloon chase crew, police said.
No injuries were reported.
• A Lancaster man faces multiple traffic charges, including two hit-and-run offenses, in connection with a two-vehicle crash Friday night on Route 324 in Martic Township, Lancaster state police said.
Christopher Bensley Maul, 51, Lancaster, fled the scene after his vehicle crashed into a vehicle driven by Bryan Scott Dean, 25, of Pequea, Trooper Ian M. Janos reported.
The accident happened at 8:12 p.m Friday, north of the Pennsy Road intersection. Maul was driving at an unsafe speed, traveled into the opposite lane, and crashed his vehicle into Dean's vehicle, Janos said.
The impact sent the Dean vehicle into a steep embankment. Maul fled the scene, but he was later apprehended, the trooper said.
Maul had minor injuries. Dean had serious injuries, and his passenger, a 7-year-old Manheim boy, had moderate injuries, police said. Both were taken to LGH for treatment.
• Lisa Torres, 36, of Landisville, and her 8-year-old daughter were hurt following a 5:05 p.m crash Saturday in the first block of Hahnstown Road in Ephrata Township, Ephrata police said.
Torres lost control while driving north on Hahnstown Road, and her 2000 Dodge van struck a utility pole, police said. The impact split the pole in half, knocked out power in the area, and closed the road for an extended period of time.
Torres and her daughter were treated for bruises at Ephrata Community Hospital. The woman's 6-year-old daughter was also in the van, but she was not hurt.
