Following a power outage that delayed the start of the game and another that halted the game for 15 minutes once it did start, Justin Taylor and the Lampeter-Strasburg defense finally turned the lights out on Penn Manor midway through the fourth quarter.

Taylor intercepted two passes, returning one 52 yards for a touchdown, in the final stanza as the Pioneers pulled away for a 26-7 non-league win Friday night in Lampeter.

L-S (1-1) took advantage of four second-half turnovers, including three interceptions in the fourth quarter alone against Comet backup quarterback Patrick Rehm.

Three plays after Taylor's INT return put the Pioneers ahead 19-7, Seth Rolko picked off a Rehm pass and returned it 26 yards for another touchdown.

Penn Manor coach Todd Mealy called on the sophomore Rehm (5-of-12, 84 yards) after junior starter Michael Treier (1-for-4, 14 yards, INT) went down with an injury early in the third quarter.

The Comets (0-2) had five turnovers in all.

"You can't win football games when you turn the ball over," said Mealy. "Being young and immature, we're not going to win football games like that. We have to eliminate all the mistakes and we have to play near-perfect to win."

Taylor, a senior, does a little bit of everything for the Pioneers.

Against Penn Manor, Taylor rushed eight times for 56 yards, kicked off, punted, booted two extra points and had the two picks.

"I saw the quarterback just lob it up," said Taylor, of the INT he took to the house. "I saw no receivers there, and I just went for it. Right when I caught it, I just felt a burst, just cut upfield and saw an open field."

For the record, Taylor also had a 92-yard touchdown run called back by a holding penalty early in the second quarter when L-S led 7-0.

"He just does things that you can't coach," said Pioneer coach John Manion. "That extra burst he has is special."

The Pioneers wasted little time getting on the board. On their opening possession, quarterback Brett Graeff hooked up with Rob Zimmerman for a 57-yard scoring strike.

Penn Manor tied it midway through the second quarter when Treier scampered 10 yards for a touchdown.

Graeff, meanwhile, completed 7-of-13 passes for 167 yards.

His longest pass, a 69-yarder to Zach Halpin to the Comet 1, set up the Pioneers' go-ahead touchdown early in the fourth quarter.

Joe Good (seven carries, 35 yards) scored on the next play, giving L-S a 13-7 lead. Taylor's PAT attempt was no good.

The ensuing Comet possession ended with the first of Taylor's two interceptions.

"That put our defense in a good spot," said Taylor of his INT return for a TD. "It gave us a real big lift."

Despite running only five offensive plays, the Pioneers scored three times in a span of 4:22, leaving Penn Manor in the dark.
