The Solanco school board tabled a business owner's request for a retroactive tax break Aug. 20 after Charlotte Trimble, one of the owners of Pilgrim's Oak Golf Course in Drumore Township requested a reduction in real-estate taxes for 2007.
Trimble had previously filed an appeal with the county to reduce real-estate taxes on the 189.6-acre tract from its current assessed value of $3,165,000 to $2,300,000.
Timothy Shrom, district business manager, said he knows Trimble has already had an appeal hearing. However, the district has not yet received any paperwork stating the county has agreed to the reduction in assessed value.
If the county agrees to the reduction, it would become effective Jan. 1. Trimble wants the district to make the reduction retroactive to July 1.
The board took no immediate action on Trimble's request. Solanco School District board members will discuss the issue and have superintendent Martin Hudacs contact Trimble when a decision is made.
In another matter, the board awarded a $5,696 bid to Challenge Fence Co. in Strasburg for fencing at Quarryville Elementary School.
The board cited five district teachers for work above and beyond the call of duty. Those honored included Jane Eddy and Connie Herr from Solanco High School, Sandy Haines and Barb Miller from Providence Elementary School and Judy Argue from Bart-Colerain Elementary School.
The board agreed to a change of employment status for Paul Gladfelter from high school social studies teacher to dean of students. The stipend will be set at a later date.
The next board meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Sept. 10 at 121 S. Hess St., Quarryville.
