A new reality series filmed partly in Lancaster County will air at 9 p.m. Monday on ABC.

"Fat March" follows a group of 12 overweight men and women as they walk more than 500 miles from Boston to Washington. The contestants try to lose weight and win money along the way.

The path created by producers led the group along country roads in the eastern end of the county, near the Chester County border, on May 31.

Contestant Shea Carpenter called the uphill trek through the county on a 90-degree plus day "the hottest and the hardest" of the trip to that point. Physical trainer Steve Pfiester explained walkers were around mile 300 that day as camera crews walked backwards recording every step.

The show, from the producers of "The Supernanny," encourages participants to support one another. Those who complete the walk win a share of the prize money. The fewer contestants who finish, however, the less money each winner will receive.

Carpenter, an Omaha native, listed a buggy ride as one of her favorite memories of the trip to that point. She won the ride in one of the challenges, during which contestants can win luxuries along the way.

In early June, contestants also competed in a challenge at Central Market during which contestants had to complete a shopping list.

Viewers can watch, "Fat March," locally on WHTM ABC-27 in Harrisburg and WPVI 6ABC in Philadelphia.
