Two teenagers forced the driver of a horse-drawn buggy to stop on a Fulton Township road Wednesday, then attempted to force the occupants from the buggy, according to state police at the Lancaster barracks.
A news release said the suspects — a white male and a white female both in their late teens — verbally harassed the occupants as they traveled along Cherry Hill Road at 11:25 p.m.
The release said the teens were driving a small red car.
The buggy's occupants included a man and woman, both 37 and both of Drumore Township, and three children, according to the release.
State police from the Lancaster barracks were not available Thursday for further comment.
Anyone with information is asked to contact state police at the Lancaster barracks at 299-7650 or Crime Stoppers at (800) 322-1913.
The incident was the latest involving horse-drawn buggies in recent weeks.
On May 20, two armed men robbed the occupants of horse-drawn buggies in Fulton and East Drumore townships.
The men made off with a small amount of cash from the buggies' occupants before fleeing in a silver Dodge Stratus.
Discussing the May 20 incidents, state police Sgt. Douglas Burig said they happy more frequently than people realize.
"This happens every year. I've seen about 40 of them," Burig said May 20. "They do it for the money, and sometimes it's a very small amount."
He said horse-drawn buggies are targeted by robbers because their occupants oftentimes are not carrying weapons or cell phones.
