The Philadelphia Eagles have signed Perry Patterson, the McCaskey and Syracuse grad, to a free agent contract.

Patterson's agent, Jerry Tierney, announced the signing today.

"Actually, he has the size [6-4, 245] and athleticism to play several positions in the NFL. I told him, it doesn't matter whether you're a first-round pick or a free agent - it's what you do in camp that counts. Perry Patterson will open eyes."

Earning a roster spot this year at quarterback would be a very long shot for Patterson.

The Eagles already have Donovan McNabb, two veteran backups in A.J. Feeley and Kelly Holcomb, and a QB-of-the-future in rookie second-round draft pick Kevin Kolb. The team's practice squad would be a possibility.
