With Tessa and Bevin still in the game, Andy faces what he calls "the hardest decision of his life" on the final episode of "The Bachelor: Officer and a Gentleman."
"I don't want to leave here devastated, with a broken heart," Tessa laments to the camera.
Sadly, unless Andy resides in Utah, one of the women is going home.
Will it be Bevin or Tessa? Before Andy decides, he brings the women home to Lancaster to meet his family —mom, dad, grandma, grandpa and sister —so he can get their input on which woman is the best fit for him.
Tessa meets the Baldwins first and tells them that her mother lives just down the road in York.
Andy's mom describes Tessa as "bright, poised, natural and real," adding, "I was drawn to her right away."
Grandpa calls her a "viable candidate," and confesses, "In my youth … she would have really appealed to me."
Andy's sister, Susie, grills Tessa on her hesitance to commit early on in the show but tells Andy, "I really like her."
Tessa demonstrates her true commitment to Andy — and his vocabulary — by telling Susie, "Being with Andy is amazing."
Bevin arrives at the Baldwin household next, causing Andy to say a phrase most men have probably never uttered: "It's hard for a family to meet two girlfriends in one day."
Bevin worries that Andy's "conservative" family will not like her and doesn't do much to help her situation when she announces that her clinical research involves "sexual dysfunction in menopausal women" before staring ominously at Mrs. Baldwin.
After an awkward pause, Bevin tells the camera, "I don't know how much the Baldwins talk about 'libido' or 'sexual dysfunction.' "
Hmm … I'm guessing not a lot.
While Andy's grandpa takes notes, the family continues to grill Bevin, asking questions such as what faith she grew up in. When she tells them "Baha'i," she's met with a big "B'Huh?"
After Bevin leaves, Andy's mom —winning points as the nicest mother-in-law-to-be ever — lauds her "gracefulness," "beautiful eyes," "laughter" and "affection for Andy."
Before heading back to Hawaii to make his final decision, Andy asks his family for advice. They tell him how much they like both women, leaving Andy to literally cry into the camera, "I don't have any clarity here. I don't (expletive) know."
Back home, Andy squires Bevin on a helicopter ride — causing the nervous flyer to burst into near maniacal laughter and loud shrieks — before they spend some time together on solid ground.
When Andy asks what she's looking for in a man, Bevin says, "Just unconditional love and understanding, open communication and a best friend."
Oh, is that all?
As their evening together winds down, Bevin gives Andy a present. It's a watch, to replace the one he gave her weeks earlier, and a couple of canoodles on the couch.
"I'm in freaking love," Andy declares.
Ah, what a romantic.
The next day, he takes Tessa out on her last date, emphasizing the importance of the occasion by saying, "There are no more chances for baby steps. It's time to go full-throttle."
Andy and Tessa go horseback riding before enjoying a romantic picnic on the beach at sunset.
Later, back at her hotel room, Tessa presents Andy with a handmade collage of pictures and words that summarize their "adventure" over the past few weeks and tells him she's falling in love, prompting Andy to pronounce, "I freaking love you."
Andy now must make a very difficult decision, and the stress he's feeling is evident. He goes for a run to clear his head, shops for an engagement ring, and then, with just one rose to give out, he waits for Bevin to arrive.
He can barely get the words out — "I love you, but I love someone else more" — before Bevin bursts into tears.
"This is not a rejection," he says, escorting her to the waiting limo, as mascara-stained tears stream down her face.
Does Andy need to look up the word "rejection" in the dictionary?
Bevin sobs in the back of the limo, "This is the story of my life." I see a "Bachelorette" series in her future.
Andy manages to collect himself and waits for Tessa to arrive.
Calling her a "wish come true," he grins ear to ear as he tells her, "You are everything I've been looking for."
He drops to one knee and presents the ring, asking, "Tessa, will you marry me?"
She says a breathy "Yes!" as the theme song from "An Officer and a Gentleman" begins playing in the background. Andy doesn't carry Tessa off into the sunset like Richard Gere does, but he does twirl her around several times.
"This journey," Andy declares, "has changed my life."
o "After the Rose," featuring Andy, Tessa and several of the bachelorettes he rejected, airs at 8 tonight on ABC.
