The heated Republican race for county commissioner and the six county judgeships up for grabs headline Tuesday's primary election.

But neither battle is expected to generate many more registered voters than recent primaries here, political followers said today.

"Twenty to 25 percent, no higher than that," said G. Terry Madonna, director of Franklin & Marshall College's Center for Politics and Public Affairs. "Commissioner races don't have the same salience of a huge battle or dispute in a township or city...They have not been big drivers of turnout."

County Democratic Committee chairman Bruce Beardsley said turnout could reach 30 percent.

Twenty-one percent of registered voters cast ballots in the 2003 primary, the last featuring a GOP race for county commissioner.
