Five seniors receive Steinman scholarships

The James Hale Steinman Memorial Scholarship Fund awarded $20,000 scholarships to five high school seniors in recognition of their academic honors and community service.

Peggy Steinman presented a check to each senior Thursday at the 44th annual awards dinner. The scholarship fund honors the accomplishments of James Hale Steinman, Peggy Steinman's father, who was a publisher of Lancaster Newspapers.

The children of Steinman Enterprises employees and newspaper carriers of Lancaster Newspapers Inc. are eligible for the scholarships.

This year's winners are:

  • Dustin Michael Musselman, son of Mark and Sharon Musselman and a senior at Solanco High School. His father, an 18-year employee of Lancaster Newspapers, is a machinist. Dustin plans to attend Carnegie Mellon University and major in electrical/computer engineering.


  • Anne Elizabeth Wallace, daughter of Brian and Susan Wallace and a senior at McCaskey High School. Lancaster Newspapers has employed her father, currently the education reporter for the Intelligencer Journal, for 18 years. Anne plans to attend the University of Pittsburgh and major in arts and sciences.


  • Colleen Jane Wallace, a McCaskey High School senior and also a daughter of Brian and Susan Wallace. She plans to attend Alfred University and major in art and design.


  • Katie Louise Rice, daughter of George and Sheri Rice and a senior at Donegal High School and a newspaper carrier since 2001. Katie plans to major in physical therapy at Penn State Mont Alto.


  • Brian James Slagle, son of Joseph and Barbara Slagle and a senior at Penn Manor High School and a newspaper carrier for six years. Brian will attend the University of Pittsburgh and plans to major in prelaw studies with a minor in political science.
