The New Era series examining the Amish schoolhouse shooting here and its aftermath has won another national journalism award.
The three-day "Lost Angels" series, published in December, received a 2007 Wilbur Award from the Religion Communicators Council.
"Lost Angels" was named best in the category of newspapers serving markets other than the top 15 markets nationwide. The Associated Press and The Dallas Morning News won the other newspaper categories.
The Wilbur Awards are named for the late Marvin C. Wilbur, a pioneer in the field of religion public relations.
The awards recognize "the work of individuals in the secular media who aspire to communicate about religious issues, values and themes with the utmost of professionalism, fairness and honesty."
Honored for their work on "Lost Angels" were staff writers Jack Brubaker, Ad Crable, Janet Kelley, Tom Murse and Cindy Stauffer; photographers Andrew P. Blackburn, Marty Heisey and Richard Hertzler; graphic artist Chris Emlet, and editor Ernest Schreiber.
