Chad Weaver, chief of staff for the retiring West Cocalico Township lawmaker, has accepted a position as director of Santorum’s central Pennsylvania operations.

Wenger, in a prepared statement, said Weaver was among the most talented staffers he’s worked with over the last three decades.

“While I will greatly miss his counsel, I know that this is an incredible opportunity for him to continue in public service and make a lasting and meaningful difference for the people of Pennsylvania,” Wenger said.

The 34-year-old aide began his career with Wenger in 1994 as a legislative assistant, but was later named chief of staff. As Wenger’s highest ranking staff member, Weaver oversaw the Ephrata district office and Harrisburg staff, helped to develop the legislative agenda, and worked directly with residents of the 36th Senatorial District.

He previously had sought to fill the state House seat of the late Rep. Leroy Zimmerman but failed to receive party endorsement.

In Santorum’s office, Weaver will be responsible for managing the senator’s Harrisburg office and staff as well as oversee operations in 16 midstate counties, including Lancaster.

Weaver, of Ephrata, is a 1989 Conestoga Valley graduate. He holds an international business degree from Messiah College and a master's degree in business administration from Penn State.

He has been involved in numerous Republican political campaigns, including President Bush’s 2000 run for office, and since then has worked on the president’s advance team.
