Wolf Blitzer, a CNN anchor and host of "The Situation Room," will give Franklin & Marshall College's 2007 commencement address.
Blitzer will receive an honorary doctorate of humane letters at the ceremony, scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, May 12, on Hartman Green. The public is invited to attend.
Marcy Dubroff, F&M associate director of college communications, said the school administration is thrilled to have Blitzer as commencement speaker.
"As one of the country's pre-eminent broadcast journalists, (Blitzer) is in a unique position to share his global perspective with our students," Dubroff said. "His breadth of experience and understanding of the world today will certainly be of interest to our graduates."
Blitzer anchors "The Situation Room," an afternoon news program on CNN featuring interviews with world leaders and discussion of current events.
He has won several awards for his reporting, including the 2004 Journalist Pillar of Justice Award from the Respect for Law Alliance and an Edward R. Murrow Award for CNN's coverage of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in 2001.
Blitzer has served as CNN's senior White House correspondent, covering Bill Clinton's presidency from November 1992 until 1999.
He began his career in 1972 with Reuters News Agency in Tel Aviv, Israel, and later became a Washington, D.C., correspondent for The Jerusalem Post.
Blitzer joined CNN in 1990 as the network's military-affairs correspondent at the Pentagon.
Since the early stages of his career, the news anchor has covered key world events, especially in the Middle East. In 1982, Blitzer was in Beirut during the withdrawal of PLO and Syrian forces, and he covered the first Israeli-Egyptian peace conference in Egypt in 1977.
Recently, Blitzer interviewed some of the nation's most notable figures, including both President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney. He also interviewed former Presidents Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush, Gerald Ford and Ronald Reagan.
Blitzer earned a bachelor's degree in history from State University of New York at Buffalo and a master's degree in international relations from Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies in Washington, D.C.
In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in the Alumni Sports and Fitness Center.
