East Lampeter Township police arrested a Lancaster man on assault and weapons charges Monday night in the 100 block of Pitney Road.
A 29-year-old woman stopped her car in that block at about 6:20 p.m. after her boyfriend allegedly punched her numerous times on the right arm and grabbed her by the face while she was driving, police said.
The actions of Mark Anthony Springer, 24, of 540 Howard Ave., caused the woman pain and led her to drive in a reckless manner, police said.
The woman managed to stop the car and call police. She then got out of the car while Springer remained in the passenger seat, police said.
When officers arrived, Springer would not obey their commands to get out of the car, police said. On the floor near Springer's legs, they said, was a nine-millimeter handgun. The gun was loaded and the safety was off, according to police.
Officer Andrew C. Garman charged Springer with simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, and two firearms violations. He was taken to Lancaster police headquarters (central booking) for arraignment this morning.
Another Lancaster man, Jonathan R. Sanchez, 20, of the 100 block of North Broad Street, was to be arraigned this morning on an outstanding city police warrant for simple assault (domestic violence).
Sanchez allegedly punched a 21-year-old ex-girlfriend several times, threw the woman to the ground and kicked her at North Lime and East Walnut streets, Officer Steve Wolpert said.
Jerison Israel Arenas, 21, of the 300 block of North Mulberry Street, also was arrested by city police. Officer J. Donald Shaeffer Jr. charged him with burglary-theft, stemming from an Aug. 18, 2006 break-in and the theft of a 37-inch television, valued at $3,184, from an apartment in the 400 block of North Queen Street.
