We have been running the Sudoku puzzle (Page A4) for a month now. It’s a tough one, rated at five stars for difficulty. Six is the highest rating.
Is it too difficult, or do you like the challenge? A caller last week asked for Super Sudoku!

Patience of Job
NEWS ITEM: Phillies and WLPA radio end partnership of more than 50 years.
Let’s hope the Phillies find a stronger signal.
At night, WLPA is a rumor in the Southern End. I had better luck finding the games on stations out of Lebanon, Reading and Chester County. But I shouldn’t complain: I learned the Buffalo Triple A team lineup when its station’s signal knocked off WLPA’s.
My vote is for WDAC-FM, the Christian station with a strong signal. After all, the Phillies are a religion. My wife, the part-time divinity student, tells me that kind of talk will get me struck by lightning. I’d like to see how Job would have handled that 10-game losing streak down the stretch in 1964.
Hall of Famers
I was working in sports for the Intelligencer Journal in 1977 when Bruce Sutter ran in from the Cubs bullpen on his way to a Hall of Fame career.
I would like to say he exploded onto the scene like his split-fingered fastball, but this was before ESPN and the televising of nearly every game. It took a little longer then for overnight-sensations to hit it big.
Bruce’s brother-in-law John Drybred worked at the Intell.
Retired as a reporter, he is married to Bruce’s sister, Barbara.
He bought a good radio, but couldn’t pull in some day games. So he and Barb would drive west, trying to zero in on a Cubs broadcast. What they wouldn’t have given for satellite radio.
John, an excellent writer, is in my Hall of Fame as a great storyteller.
Addresses on letters
Some time ago, I said that writers of letters to the editor could use the names of their municipalities as their addresses. You can have a Lancaster address and not live anywhere near the city. A few took me up on that, but not very many. So now I’m asking, please, list the municipality in which you live, also. Thanks to former workmate Eileen Ashworth for reminding me.
Say it ain’t so, Rick
The naysayers in the convention center/hotel project remind me of the woman who got a court order against David Letterman because she said the funnyman gave off signals during his TV show that clearly said that he wanted her.
For some reason, this group must have thought that new mayor Rick Gray was secretly signaling them during the campaign that he really didn’t support the project, despite saying he did.
Gray reiterated his stand at the meeting called by three convention center board members who are trying to kill the project. Lancaster Online’s TalkBack was alive with their startled reactions.
About your allowance
Daughter Abigail, 10, told me last week I was “over the mountain.’’
“ ‘Over the hill’ is the saying,’’ I told her.
“I know,’’ she said. “But you’re older than that; you’re over the mountain.’’
